A few weeks ago Vollie Austin Toffee offered me a can of their product to sample. Since I love chocolate, I happily agreed to taste and tell you all about their toffe. Vollie Austin is a small business based in Aloha, Oregon. Mike Calder, the owner of the company, learned how to make toffee when he was 10 years old. Today he still uses the original recipe he was taught by his grandfather, Vollie Austin. Vollie Austin Toffee creates small batch goodness using high quality ingredients. They sell four different flavors: No Nut Vanilla Bean, Coffee Almond, Oregon Hazelnut, and Original Recipe. I tried the No Nut Vanilla Bean.
I had the company mail the tin of toffee to the school where I work because I did not want it sitting outside in TX heat. When I opened the package in the mail room everyone was interested sampling a piece, so by the time I made it back to my office I was out of toffee to take a picture of, but I had lots of feedback. So, instead of using my words to describe the yumminess I will let you know what other peoples’ reactions were when they tasted it. Here are some of the things I heard:
“Oh, this is good!”
“Can I have a second piece?”
“Where do you get this?”
“I wish boys tried to get us to buy this instead of popcorn.”
“It is really light. I am sure it is okay to eat this while on Weight Watchers”
In other words, all of my colleagues really liked it. The biggest testament to how good it is is that one colleague who claims to “be allergic to anything with chocolate” came to fine me the next day to see if I had any left. Sadly, I did not. In my own words, the toffee was superb. I highly recommend trying it.
